Lot 749
1929. PCGS graded MS-61. Old green holder. This is one of the key dates to the series of Indian half eagles and a coin which is rarely found this nice. Of the large mintage of 662,000 pieces, it is estimated that fewer than 800 pieces exist today. While most of the known coins are mint state, they are usually in lower grades of MS-62 and down, as these known coins were not carefully preserved by numismatists at the time of issue. It is also curious to note that Indian half eagle production came to a halt after 1916, and was dormant until a flurry of activity in 1929 for this singular issue, which then became the final year of production. For the date and mint collector, a large part of how their particular collection is defined is based on the key dates, and with this elegant 1929 half eagle, the lucky owner will clearly be on the way to a memorable collection of this popular and challenging series. Estimate Value $30,000 - UP
