1804 C-5 R4 Spiked Chin F12. Choice glossy chocolate and steel. Smooth and quite nice for the grade with just a couple minor contact marks. The notable ones are a pinprick on the bust at the drapery line and a small rim bruise at ES in STATES. MDS, Manley state 4.0. A gentle bulge shows in the field before the portrait and the reverse crack is continuous from the A in STATES to the C in AMERICA. The "Spiked Chin" feature (caused by damage to the die early in the marriage) is obvious. Comes with a very nice provenance. Estimate Value $200 - UP

Lot 6
1804 C-6 R2 Spiked Chin PCGS graded AU53. Frosty steel brown and chocolate with lighter brown and tan in some of the protected areas and darker steel brown toning on the highpoints. The surfaces are smooth and there are no notable marks or other defects, but the surfaces are a bit dull from a thin layer of natural oxidation. Looks like this piece hasn't been touched for a very long time. Scarce EDS, Manley state 1.0 late, with die cracks through the legend outside the wreath but no crack up from the top of the I in UNITED. The Spiked Chin feature is obvious to the unaided eye. A nice half cent. Our grade is EF40. The Spiked Chin feature is noted on the PCGS label. Estimate Value $700 - UP

1804 C-6 R2 Spiked Chin EF40. Slightly sharper but there are a few light contact marks on the rim including a small rim nick at BE in LIBERTY and a minor rim bruise at TA in STATES. The only other notable mark is a small planchet flake on the chin. Otherwise the surfaces are smooth and the eye appeal is excellent. Frosty steel brown and chocolate with lots of frosty golden tan faded down from mint color in protected areas and darker steel brown toning on the highpoints of the devices. M-LDS, Manley state 9.0, with a series of clearly defined cud breaks on the reverse. The Spiked Chin feature is clear. Estimate Value $500 - UP

1804 C-6 R2 Spiked Chin VF25. Glossy medium chocolate brown blending to darker olive brown in protected areas. The surfaces are smooth and the only notable mark is a small rim nick left of the lower curls. M-LDS, Manley state 9.5. There are several die cracks and cud breaks on the reverse and the area over the I in UNITED is starting to rise as a retained cud. The Spiked Chin feature is clear. Estimate Value $300 - UP
