Lot 1365
1796. NGC graded VF Details. Plugged and Whizzed. B-2. Popular first year type coin. There is a lot of definition on this key issue. A total of 6,146 pieces were struck in 1796, the vast majority lost long ago. Any example puts a collector on the road to greatness, and a significant number of these are damaged in one form or another. This example offers a good compromise blending quality and cost. Estimate Value $10,000 - 11,000

1796. PCGS graded VG Details. Cleaned. Nice blue and grey toning on both sides now, with only a trace of old cleaning when closely examined. The surfaces are generally smooth from moderate circulation. A key issue as these were only struck with the Draped Bust, Small Eagle combination in 1796. Hence all type collectors need an example. That keeps demand always strong when one of these turns up. Popular type coin (PCGS # 5310) Estimate Value $5,000 - 5,500

Scarce when found this nice, and always in demand from type, date, and variety collectors. A very nice looking coin that will appeal to any numismatist. Pop 27; 74 finer at PCGS. 1853. Arrows and Rays. NGC graded MS-66. Boldly struck with a hint of blue and golden toning especially around the reverse periphery. Here's one of the new tenor coins that survived, and survived in outstanding condition. Pop 7; 4 in 67. Estimate Value $19,000 - 20,000

Lot 1383
1878-S. NGC graded MS-65. Pop 3; none finer at NGC. Fully white and lustrous, and boldly struck. A condition rarity at this level, with frantastic eye appeal and surface quality. This coin is as fresh as the day it was struck, with gleaming luster throughout. The recorded mintage of 140,000 pieces seems way too high given how hard this date is to find. PCGS's Coin Facts estimates only 300 examples survive in all grades, and this one is near the very top of those known. What happened to the bulk of this mintage is unknown, but this is clearly a low survival rate--and one which created another challenging coin for the numismatist to acquire. 1892. PCGS graded Proof 66 Plus PQ. Boldly struck with wonderful rainbow toning which spans from vibrant blue in the fields and devices, changing over to russet-gold at the centers, and lighter iridescence closer to the rims. This toning is perfectly matched and balanced on both sides. A coin which offers exceptional eye appeal. The 1892 Barber coinage was launched on the dime, quarter and half dollar, with the obverse dies all of the same design. The reverse of the dime continued the same as seen on the prior Liberty Seated design since 1860. Mint Engraver Charles E Barber used the mirror image of the Morgan design of the silver dollar obverse (1878) for the head of Liberty, and cropped her hair in the back, and placed the balance of her hair beneath a large cap. This coin should be called PR67. Only 1,245 proofs struck (PCGS # 5678) Estimate Value $4,000 - 4,400

Add to the technical perfection the blazing white frost and cameo contrast and you have a worthy coin to pursue (PCGS # 85681) Estimate Value $10,000 - 11,000
