Lot 264
1794 C-4a R3 Small Edge Letters NGC graded AU58. Glossy medium steel brown with frosty tan covering the fields and protected areas on both sides. No contact marks and only a hint of friction on the highest points of the devices. However there are some shallow planchet voids on the neck with mostly smaller ones in the field before the portrait, all as struck. The remainder of the planchet is smooth and choice, and the reverse is flawless. M-LDS, Manley state 3.0, with obvious die clashmarks on both sides and bold swelling under the cap, but the fine die crack at M in AMERICA has not formed. The reverse is rotated 15 degrees CCW from the normal head-to-foot die orientation. Better than the Manley plate coin for the die state. Our grade is AU50. Pop 1; none finer at NGC for the variety. Estimate Value $10,000 - UP

Lot 265
1794 C-7 R5+ VF25+. Attractive glossy medium brown and light chocolate with slightly darker steel brown toning on the highpoints of the devices. Possibly lightly cleaned and retoned but the eye appeal of this piece is excellent. The surfaces are smooth and there are no notable marks. Evenly struck with strong devices throughout. MDS. The radial die crack through the E in UNITED is strong and it reaches the leaves below where it fades away. The reverse die is misaligned to K-5 while the obverse is reasonably well centered on the planchet. A premium mid-grade example of this rare variety, close to VF30. Estimate Value $6,000 - UP

Reasonably smooth but not perfectly so with fine granularity visible under magnification. No verdigris or notable marks. Struck 10% off center to K-8. The date is not readable and about two-thirds of the legends remain visible. Our grade is consistent with the ANACS grade. The 10% Off-Center error is noted on the ANACS label. Estimate Value $150 - UP

Lot 267
1796 C-2 R4 With Pole PCGS graded Fine-15. Sharpness near VF20 but there are a few too many light contact marks on an otherwise smooth, choice planchet. The notable marks are a pair of very fine hairline scratches down the portrait and several small, light rim nicks or bumps on both sides, strongest at the bottom of the reverse. A good identifying mark is a dull nick resting on the left top of the O in OF. Attractive glossy medium brown and light chocolate fading to slightly darker chocolate and olive brown in protected areas. The date and legends are complete and strong. A very nice example of the key date in the half cent series. Our grade is consistent with the slab grade. Weight 84.7 grains. The Cohen-2 With Pole designation and Carvin Goodridge provenance are noted on the PCGS label. Pop 1; the finer of the only 2 examples graded at PCGS for the variety. Estimate Value $40,000 - UP
