Lot 2099
1920-S. PCGS graded MS-62. Untoned with blazing mint luster. Although the mintage of 558,0000 pieces implies availability, this is in fact one of the rarest of the "collectible" Saint-Gaudens double eagles. It is estimated that only 150 1920-S double eagles still exist. The remainder were apparently melted in the 1930s. Hence collector pressure is quite high when a nice example like this coin turns up. Fully struck, scattered light bagmarks as expected, and a pleasing coin for the date collector who needs an example of this rare branch mint issue. Popular key date. Pop 16; (PCGS # 9171) Estimate Value $50,000 - 60,000

Lot 2123
1932. PCGS graded MS-65. A frosty untoned gem. Very popular key date. The surfaces are alive with flashy luster, and the color is perfect, rich coppery gold with the fresh greenish hints near the rims, precisely as these loook when never cleaned or fussed with. In other words this coin looks just about the same as it did the day it was struck. No wear, just several years in a canvas bag or stacked in a long forgotten bank vault. Today we know that the final six Saint-Gaudens double eagles are virtually not collectible without spending a considerable sum. The late isssue rarities begin with the 1929, then the 1930-S, 1931, 1931-D, 1932 and of course, the winner is the 1933. Other dates are quite rare too, which makes collecting this series quite a challenge. The reason these dates are so rare is the virtually the entire production was melted when cold was called back to the U.S. Treasury in 1933. Today, there are fewer than 100 known of the 1932 double eagle. Thankfully for collectors, those that did survive tend to offer radiant luster and mid to high grades of Mint State. Here is one that will dazzle any specialist with its unending glow and freshness. Pop 32; 1 in 65+; 10 in 66; 1 in 66+; (PCGS # 9194) Estimate Value $75,000 - 80,000
