Lot Photo Description Realized
Lot 1800
1803, 3 over 2. BD-1, Rarity-4. PCGS graded Genuine AU Details. Smoothed. Only 33,506 minted. Mostly untoned with nice details and luster. The over date is quite clear on the 1803/2 issue with, curiously, 4 die varieties reported including two separate obverses. These always come well struck. As the photographs display, and lot viewers will see for themselves, all hair waves are well defined. The eagle has complete feather sharpness as well, the scroll bold, the shield lines present on the chief as well as the six stripes which, along with the blank areas between the stripes, together define the red, white and blue colors of the United States (the chief or horizontal lines represent the color blue, while the stripes are the red and white portion as seen on the Great Seal of the United States). Heraldic and other imagery abounds on U.S. coins and paper money. But most have forgotten their meaning in this fast-paced, technological age (PCGS # 8084) .
Estimated Value $800 - 900.
