Own a Piece of the Moon: Lunar Meteorite End Cut Plus Flown Apollo 11 Kapton Foil. The only way to legally own a piece of the moon is to acquire a rare piece of a lunar meteorite. This lot contains a 1.042 gram 18 x 12 mm polished end cut of Lunar meteorite Northeast Africa 001. The end cut has the cut side polished and the back side is untouched showing the surface of the meteorite. This lunar meteorite is an anorthositic regolith breccia from the Lunar highlands that was blown off of the moon by a meteorite impact and was found in April 2002 in northern Sudan near the Libya/Egypt/ Sudan border. Only a single meteorite weighing 262 grams (just over ½ pound) was found. The polished section has a number of white and light gray mineral clasts embedded in a dark gray microcrystalline impact melt matrix. The meteorite is also historical as being the very first meteorite to be authenticated from Northeastern Africa.
Also, included in a 12 x 8" Riker mount is a one inch square gold flown Apollo 11 Kapton foil which came from the Apollo 11 Command Module, Columbia after its splash down in the Pacific ocean from its historic first lunar landing. This Kapton foil provided thermal protection for the Command Module as it passed through the earth's atmosphere on the return flight from the moon. The foil is made from gold on one side and silver on the other and has been mounted in an acrylic square for protection. This foil comes with a signed document that it was given to retired NASA engineer W.R. Whipley in Production Control in 1969. Apollo 11 was the most famous NASA mission of all time with Neil Armstrong being the first man to walk on the moon. Besides the authentification card for the Moon meteorite and signed certificate for the Kapton foil, there is a color photograph of the Command Module showing the gold Kapton foil covering its outer surface. Estimate Value $2,200 - UP

Neil Armstrong Inscribed and Signed Color Portrait Photo, ca. 1964; Thanks For Help on Gemini VIII. (1930-2012) Neil Armstrong and David Scott flew into orbit on the Geminini VIII mission to test a rendezvous and docking procedure with the Agena target vehicle as well as an EVA experiment. Mission was proceeding as planned but after docking, the combined vehicle began to tumble and pitch. Armstrong and Scott were able to deactivate the link and stabilize the capsule by using up much of the re-entry control system fuel. The mission was immediately aborted and retrofire began about 10 hours after launch. While much of the planned objectives were not achieved nevertheless much was gained on this mission including docking and controlled re-entry. Armstrong has boldly signed in Sharpie "To Denny-- With Thanks For Your Help on Gemini VIII, Neil Armstrong" on an official NASA Photo 10 x 8". Printed on verso "Manned Spacecraft Center Official Photograph, 10 September 64, Manned Spacecraft Center, Houston, Texas, Astronaut Neil Armstrong" In perfect condition and scarce given the inscription reference to Gemini VIII by Armstrong. Paul Haney; "The Voice of NASA" 16 Handwritten Transcribed Notes While Armstrong & Aldrin On Moon, + Press Pool Memo. (1929-2009) Paul Haney was known as the voice of NASA mission control for his live commentary during the Gemini and Apollo space flights in the 1960s. It was the voice of Mr. Haney as director of public affairs that broadcast audiences heard live from the Houston control room, explaining what was going on. The calmness that the public heard from 1965 to 1969, as Mr. Haney announced tense events like launchings and difficult recoveries, contrasted with some behind-the scenes conflict. For the Moonwalk, he was at ITV in Britiain after being let go by NASA. Offered are 16 pages of quickly written notes taken by Haney on a 6 x 3" shirt pocket sized note pad during Neil Armstrong's and Buzz Aldrin's walk on the moon while Haney writes regarding what he is watching and hearing from the Astronauts. Paul Haney described the moonwalk during the coverage as "the greatest thing to happen since fish crawled up on the beach and survived". There are many great things to be discovered in these notes, our favorites are the description of the plumes of dust as the LM lands and Haney's observations: "Aldrin does most of the talking as usual". Rare and unique.
Also an original memo dated April 29, 1969, issued prior to being let go from NASA, to Director of Flight Crew Operations listing the names of individuals approved for pool positions to cover a review with Armstrong and Aldrin, co-signed by Deke Slayton and also quite scarce. Estimate Value $1,000 - UP
