1885-S. NGC graded MS-65 Prooflike. A very early strike of the dies that is so strong, it appears "basined" on each side. A glittering snow-white gem example that is conditionally rare at this level. Pop 8; none finer at NGC. (PCGS # 7165) .

1888. PCGS graded MS-66 Deep Mirror Prooflike. The 1888 Morgan dollar is occasionally available as a Gem with DMPL surfaces, however, it is rarely encountered in MS-66 as a Deep Mirror Prooflike. When examining this example, we find the fields actually "go black" when turned under a light, and the frosted devices glow to for the deeply contrasting, highly desirable DMPL effect on each side. This example is fully brilliant and the striking definition is sharply detailed throughout. Pop 7; 2 finer, 1 in 66+, 1 in 67. (PCGS # 97183) .

1888. NGC graded MS-67. Fully brilliant ice-white surfaces are devoid of most trivial distractions. Sharply struck, as well, and a simply exquisite example of the individual issue as well as the type. Literally about as fine as you will encounter in a NGC holder for the date. An important opportunity for the Morgan dollar collector. Pop 75; 4 finer, 3 in 67 Star, 1 in 68. (PCGS # 7182) .

1889. PCGS graded MS-65 Prooflike. Nicely mirrored fields form a splendid backdrop to sharply struck, well frosted devices. Both sides are untoned, or virtually so, with a thin line of rich reddish-russet border color on each side. The surfaces exhibit the overall smooth appearance that one should expect for the MS-65 designation. Pop 30; 1 finer in 66. (PCGS # 7189) .

1889-O. PCGS graded MS-65. Conditionally scarce at the Gem level, especially so with such strong luster and strike as is this coin. The reverse is brilliant while the obverse shows just a dash of cinnamon color at the top, but not enough to call this piece anything but a white coin. Minimal handling marks virtually require magnification to see, and Liberty's cheek and the nearby fields are fresh and undiminished by time or bag handling. Currently PCGS has awarded a mere 188 pieces the Gem grade, with only 18 finer. Pop 188; 18 finer, 8 in 65+, 10 in 66. (PCGS # 7192) .

1890-O. PCGS graded MS-65 Deep Mirror Prooflike PQ. CAC Approved. A great looking DMPL dollar featuring a modest amount of antique-gold and sea-blue colorations surrounding the borders. Bright, highly reflective luster glistens from the fields and the devices are frosty on this well presented and sharply struck specimen. This date is highly elusive as a Deep Mirror Prooflike in any grade, let alone a full Gem. Soft-edged devices and details throughout the centers are typical on this New Orleans date, however, a very small percentage of the year's production is found with enough convincing detail to be called "bold" and this is one such coin. Worth a close examination by the perspective buyer. Pop 1; 1 finer in 66. (PCGS # 97201) .

1890-O. PCGS graded MS-66. Lovely shades of cobalt-blue, crimson-red, lilac, gold, and russet combine to decorate each side of this remarkably smooth Gem example. Even close examination with a loupe fails to reveal any noteworthy marks or other distractions. Well defined, save for the minor softness always seen at the central areas on each side. An important offering for Morgan dollar connoisseurs. Pop 23; 1 finer in 66+. (PCGS # 7200) .

1892-CC. PCGS graded MS-64. CAC Approved. This is a fully lustrous Choice Uncirculated example, with largely brilliant centers that are surrounded with deep russet-gold toning at the peripheries on each side. A few scattered scuffs and grazes are present, mostly on the reverse, as are typical for the assigned grade, however, none are individually notable. The 1892-CC is a fairly high-mintage date for Carson City, more than 1.3 million coins, but it was not as well-represented in the GSA sales as were its counterparts from the early 1880s. The result is this date is now much more difficult to locate in the higher Mint State grades (PCGS # 7214) .

1892-O. PCGS graded MS-65+ PQ. CAC Approved. An important strike rarity in the O-mint Morgan dollar series, the typical 1892-O is bluntly impressed in the centers. Not so on the present example, both sides are boldly-to-sharply defined throughout with a strike that easily upholds the validity of the Gem Mint State grade. Bright, frosty-white surfaces are free of both toning and grade-limiting abrasions. A rare opportunity for the advanced Morgan dollar collector. Pop 6; 6 finer, 5 in 66, 1 in 67. (PCGS # 7216) .

1901. PCGS graded MS-63. While not rare in and of itself, the 1901 Morgan dollar is certainly available in circulated grades, but in Uncirculated grades, most of those known are in lower grades of MS-62 and down. Finding a Select example that has brilliant silver surfaces and pleasing luster is a delight for the specialist. A few shallow scuffs are present, as expected for the grade level, but the eye appeal is high and the surface quality above and beyond what is commonly encountered. 1903-S. PCGS graded MS-65. A superior Gem example, richly toned overall in somewhat mottled shades of blue-green, gray, with accents of mauve and pink on the reverse. In tune with the 1904 S-mint issue in this series, the 1903-S is a remarkably scarce coin in the finer Mint State grades despite a respectable original mintage of 1.2 million pieces. It seems likely that many coins of this date were included among the 270,232,722 silver dollars that the U.S. government melted under the provisions of the Pittman Act. That silver was subsequently sold to the British government which then shipped it off to India during a silver panic in the subcontinent. The surfaces exhibit a smooth, carefully preserved appearance. There are very few of the usual contact marks, and neither side reveals any singularly distracting nicks or spots. A bold strike rounds out this coin's list of positive attributes. Pop 137; 51 finer (PCGS # 7288) .
