China. A Choice Group of Vintage to Antique Jade Plant and Animal Carvings. Circa 17th -20th century. Colors range from off white to celadon, and to brown. Usual vegetables: a gourd with chilong and bat hovering at one side, another with monkey at side. Among the animals: a pair of intertwined foxes; foo dogs; a bull and a horse; monkeys; people; etc. Last and most interesting, a fossil shell's forms part of a bird on fruit design. Lengths: 1-1/2" - 3". A very fine group. Lot of 17 items.

China. A Group of Vintage to Antique Belt Fittings in Celadon-colored Jade. Circa 18th -20th century. Items comprise three matched pairs, and a singleton -- the pairs all color matched. Two pairs are rectangular, having a suspension loop; one openwork, with chilong; another with auspicious signs. The singleton in attractive celadon, with hints of lavender, carved as an archaic vessel. Last are a pair of catches or cinches, in openwork, with paired dragon foreparts. Pieces average: 2-1/4". Jades mostly celadons and greens, along with some fine deep reds and oranges, darker colors, plus a few pieces in soapstone. Includes: two foo dogs in clouds, and a colorful soapstone "mountain," with tiny chilongs in one corner. Also, three small dishes; fruit pendants and openwork plaques; a strand of red and brown jade beads; a good number of cigarette holders(?) in jade (or for incense sticks?); and much more. China. A Lot of Vintage to Antique Jade Carvings -- "From a Scholar's Desk." Circa 17th -20th century. Items for use and contemplation. Includes: a narrow tube, inscribed with poem and "key" border; two "hand rests" for calligraphy, one simple and inletted, the other (in dark nephrite) carved as bamboo. Inscribed or decorated objects include: three bells; items resembling an axe head and early money. Other items: a charming study of cats, an elephant; and an "enhydro" geode sphere, i.e. a carefully cut and shaped agate nodule that still retains the original water that accumulated in it over a multi-million year span! China. A Lot of Vintage to Antique Jade "Novelty" Carvings. Circa 18th -20th century. Items in off white, celadons, and greens, plus one red-orange. Flattish pieces carved as a length of looped rope. Two hollowed out pieces: a pi which rotates within three loops of cord; an ornately sculpted thick "pi" with rotating inner rosette of darker green. And three carvings with sinuous chilong crawling through the narrow central hole. Last, a large seed carved with a face resembling Daruma. Lengths: 1-1/2" - 2-5/8". Lot of 7 items.

China. A Lot of Vintage to Antique Jade, a Variety of Plaques, Discs, and Belt Fittings. Circa 17th -20th century. Items in celadons, plus one red & tan, along with off whites, and one green-flecked jadeite, and several a deep spinach green. The belt fittings include: archaistic cicadas, and a very ornate moth. The discs are mostly finely detailed floral arabesques. The plaques comprise both inscriptions and vegetable motifs, plus a choice rendering of the immortal, Shou Xin, and couple bat amulets. In a handsome pink, a finely detailed portrait of one the eight Daoist "Immortals." This mounted to a 14 kt yellow gold frame. Lastly, a delightful and amusing seated figure of Shou Xin, which means "Star of Longevity" in Chinese. He is both an immortal, and a powerful and popular symbol of long life. Items mostly in silver (plain, enameled, or gilt), a few gilt bronze, and most of filigree manufacture. Many with popular emblems, or luck or prosperity signs. First, a truly elegant open work sculpture in carnelian/agate of a long-tailed bird (Pheonix?) perched on a flowering bush - - skillful use of the stone's colored bandings defines the elements of the composition. Also, an amusing archaistic resting cat, in brown and olive nephrite; and a pleasing seated plump Buddha. Quality Table Top Agate Carving of Dragon and Goddess. China. In a gray-brown chalcedony a lotus-ornamented ring encases a central disc; along the top, a sinuous dragon and seated goddess hold up a smaller multicolored disc, with an equally colorful bat hovering below, on the backside (these carved into the stone's lighter colored "skin"). Piece has custom stand. Total height: 7-1/2".Also a small finely carved single-handled cup, perhaps antique, in gray and black jadeite.

Large group of "toggles" - - roughly heart-shaped, slab-sided loops, the sides enriched with a wide variety of ornament, from amuletic inscriptions, to scenics, floral displays, and animals. Similarly, the belt fittings, emulating ancient forms, often with animal carvings. Jade mostly of celadon color. Largest width: 3-1/2". Lot of 42 items.

Three Larger Stone Carvings. China. Finest is the red & tan soapstone carving of popular and ever present immortal, Shou Xi. He stands leaning forward, holding peach and dragon staff. In a dark spinach green nephrite(?), a lovely lady, perhaps He Xian Gu, the Doaist symbol of devotion and duty. She with beads and lotus scepter. Last, a bold dragon in gray chalcedony/agate (repair at tail). Tallest piece: 15". Attractive. Lot of 3 items.

Two Fine Examples of Vintage and Modern Wood Craft. China. Oldest, an intriguing walking stick in bamboo, carved as a worm-eaten trunk, which allows the view of four contesting snakes within. The creatures neatly rendered, with the scales emphasized with blackening, and the snakes' eyes inlaid in mother of pearl. The stick with rich chestnut patina. More recent, about 20-30 years ago, a deep lidded box in rosewood and mahogany, with pastoral scene on lid, beautifully inlaid in brass wire. Cane: 36-1/2"; Box: 21" x 17" x 4-1/2". Lot of 2 items.

Unbelievable Jumbo Lot of Jade Hair Pins. Corner the market on this lady's accessory! Pins generally curved, sometimes with rounded or pointed ends. Some more elaborate. Some in delicate openwork traceries, with others with carved disc tops and very archaic-looking. Mostly in celedons and greens, and a few brightly colored mottled green jadeites, and other colors. One mounted on carved wood base, with lable stating it to be Ching Dynasty. Some pieces look to be vintage or antique; a few are in silver. Lengths: 14 - 31 mm. Quality old dealer stock, purchased in the 1960's through 1980's. Nearly 150 pieces.

Outstanding, Colorful Small Agate Carvings. China or Japan, c. 1960's - 1980's. Among the most delightful lapidary items in this oriental collection: the artists use the utmost of their artistry and ingenuity to fashion the stone's colored bandings as lively points of focus, with the rest of the stone as its supporting environment. Seen: a gray-lavender reclining bull on a leafy carpet of rust and orange; a chilong, in tan-creme, on foliage of brown, gray, and white; Buddha within a cave, Buddha an almost gray-lavender, the cave and foliage in yellow-browns and orange; two tussling cats carved out of a bright turquoise nugget; and more. Lengths: 1-1/2" - 3". Inspection recommended -- some delightful sculptures here. Lot of 11 items.
