AR Shekel (13.5g) dated Year One (66/7 C.E.). Temple vessel (omer cup?) with wide plain rim and pearl on either side; above date and surrounding Hebrew inscription: Shekel of Israel. Reverse: Stem with three budding pomegranates; Hebrew inscription: Jerusalem is Holy. This variety was issued before the pearled rim type. Boldly struck on a wide flan, but somewhat off center. Hammered edges are cruder than later issues. H-655, AJC 2a. About Extremely Fine.

Reverse: Stem with three budding pomegranates; Hebrew inscription: Jerusalem is Holy. Well struck with obverse slightly off center and reverse almost perfectly centered. H-656, AJC 6. Medium Bronze (Quarter) dated Year 4 (69/70 C.E.). Etrog, with Hebrew inscription: For the Redemption of Zion. Reverse: Two lulavs, surrounded by: Year Four -- Half. Obverse is especially nice. Dark brown patina. H-669, AJC 29. This coin was perhaps a substitite for the silver Half Shekel, as silver was running short by the fourth year of the revolt. Very scarce. Obverse Very Fine, reverse Very Good.

Small Bronze (Eighth?) dated Year 4 (69/70 C.E.). Chalice with pearled rim, inscribed in Hebrew: For the Redemption of Zion. Reverse: Lulav flanked by two etrogs, surrounded by: Year Four. The lulav and etrog are used in the celebration of Succoth, the Feast of the Tabernacles. H-670, AJC 30. Exceptionally well struck obverse with both sides nicely centered; even dark brown patina. Obverse Extremely Fine, reverse Very Fine.

Also includes two Very Fine Hadrian denarii, one with a sailing vessel on the reverse. Lot of 3 coins. Good to Very Good.

Hadrian traveled across his entire empire during his reign. In AD 130 he traveled from Arabia to Egypt by way of Judaea. This sestertius commemorates his visit to Judaea.

Judaea Capta, 69-70 C.E., Laureate rt. head of Vespasian; reverse: mourning woman (Judaea personified) seated to the right of Roman trophy, IVDAEA below (H-759, BMC 35). Another similar coin but trophy replaced by palm tree (H-761, BMC 43). Each Fine.
