C. Fossier. "Afternoon Request". Beautiful 19th Century French School oil painting by "C. Fossier, Paris". A lot of tension and mood in this piece where a woman of considerable means is enjoying a song by a handsome lute player. The lighting is clearly focused on the woman, the dress appears as if illuminated from within, her face both considered and yet very content. The furnishings and decor speak to the Spanish Colonial period as does the dress of both woman and lute player. With that, Fossier has captured the luxe details of the period beautifully adding to the great appeal of this work
Canvas measures 22 x 35" framed in a stunning gilt wood for an overall size of 32 x 42" Condition: Overall and even craquelure throughout not uncommon for this time. Frame is in equally impressive condition with only some age fissures in some of the ornately carved details and a very thin 2" strip missing at bottom edge, hardly noticeable. J. Blanche. Still Life: Peonies, Violets, Lilies and Iris. J. Blanche (not Jacques Emile Blanche) original oil on canvas: a vibrant, dramatic still life of flowers very much borrowing from the techniques and styles of 17th Century Dutch painters. These works capture an elegance and refinement that remains as popular today as the were several hundreds years past. Numerous contemporary artists in Europe have found great success in the study, inspiration and ultimately talent in breathing life once again in this genre.

A beautiful example here and what especially impresses in the scale of this work. Canvas is 36 x 24 and appropriately framed in gilt wood to 46 x 33". The flowers appear lit from within the trailing of vines and greenery beautifully executed, and the large snifter of water and transparency almost hyper-real.

Case in point is this wonderfully warm toned mixed media on canvas work we have entitled "Feeding Pigeons Outside the Bakery". Could be any any number of locations in Venice, but the apparel is conspicuously ageless. One pigeon actually eating out of the gentleman's hand, two wonderful dogs on leash, cigarette dangling from mouth which evokes a time somewhat out of the past.

Three Early 20th Century Japanese Origingal Bird Woodblock Watercolors. "Exquisite Birds of the World". Beautiful Early 20th Century Japanese hand painted watercolors and woodblock prints of exceptional quality. These three works were bound in a folio of 16 offset and duo-tone printings of birds. But these three works were the centerpieces.
Carefully removed from a near destroyed cover folio, the watercolors do have the slits used to thread the decorative ribbon ties as well as the more secure pair of staple holes on the outermost right borders. Fortunately they can be easily trimmed or matted out. The actual watercolors are vibrant, exquisitely detailed and in remarkably fine condition. We note very light age toning two of the pieces have a hint of staining in the lower right hand corners that in no way impact the actual art. 17.5 x 12.75" these are large prints that impress. On the verso, one can see the bleed through of the watercolors.
Hand painted Japanese bird watercolors can command upwards to several thousands each making this particularly lot of three a fine opportunity for the new collector. Estimated Value $900 - 1,500

John Puglisi. "August in Brick City". John Puglisi is something of a Renaissance man. He has worked for a variety of studios including Disney, DreamWorks, Nickleodeon and Sony creating storyboards for some of their most acclaimed animation triumphs including HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON. But Puglisi is also a celebrated painter and his works have a strong fan base, the issue being not many being publicly available. This post modern work is typical of his style, with city skyscrapers rising like towers to the heavens, but still very much locked in 1930's to 1950s architecture. The scale of the buildings intentionally dwarf the two city dwellers below at their windows. The approach raises all kinds of themes which make his works so intriguing. 29 x 14" This is a great piece. Estimated Value $2,500 - 3,500
