Apollo 13: Flown Thermal Mylar Film Coating, "Kapton Foil" from the Command Module "Odyssey", Two Segments. Apollo 13: Two (2) "Kapton" Foil Segments (officially GT-131 Thermal Control Coating Laminate) from the aborted Apollo 13 Mission taken from the Command Module "Odyssey" which in April, 1970 carried Jim Lovell, Jack Swigert and Fred Haise into space. The mission resulted in one of the most dramatic and greatest triumphs for NASA in getting the men back safely after an oxygen tank explosion two days into their flight to the moon. The mylar film coating provided thermal protection for the Command Module which traveled farther than any manned mission prior, 249,205 miles. Once returned to Earth, thermal coating was removed from the spacecraft and very often used for presentation purposes, usually entombed in lucite. Segments measure 3 x 4¼" and 3 x 1¾" with heat stress and buckling clearly apparent on both. Comes with exceptional provenance and a COA that is distinctly different from the Apollo 11 Certificates. Each Apollo 13 COA has an image of the North American Rockwell Corporation - Space Division Temporary Parts Removal Tag clearly stating "Crew Compartment Heat Shield Mylar, C/M 109" of which these were a part, as well as an image of the fragments. Estimated Value $600 - 1,000

Ten Cosmonaut Signatures on a Star City Commemoration/Invitation. Star City or Gagarin Research Test Training Center, + Vladislav Volkov Sig. Star City (on this piece, translated as 'Star Town') is where Russian Cosmonauts trained is a common name of an area in Zvyozdny gorodok, Moscow Oblast, Russia, which has since the 1960s been home to the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center (GCTC). Cosmonauts of the Russian Federal Space Agency, and the Soviet space program before it, have lived and trained in Star City since the 1960s. In the Soviet era the location was a highly secret and guarded military installation, access to which was severely restricted. Many Russian cosmonauts, past and present, and Training Centre's personnel, live in Star City with their families. The facility has its own post office, high school, shops, child day care/kindergarten, movie theater, sports and recreation facilities, railway station, and a museum of space travel and human exploration. An impressive statue of Gagarin is located on the grounds, the first man in space.

Offered on this vintage piece are the signatures of 10 Cosmonauts which include Alexi Leonov, Yvgeni Khrunov, Andriyan Nikolayev, Boris Volynov, and Vitaly Zholobov.

Also included is a Russian newspaper from 1969 with a headline of a crew signed by Vladislav Volkov who tragically died June 30, 1971 when his descent vehicle depressurized during the landing of the Soyuz-11. Estimated Value $200 - 400
