Revolutionary War Soldier Silhouette Portrait. Portrait of Capt. John Patterson (identified on verso) on 4½ x 3 in. thin, dark brown paper. The artist's initials "W.D.P." are penned at the base of the silhouette, as is the letter "P" and part of another letter (Philadelphia?). Captain Patterson most likely belonged to one of the Pennsylvania regiments because the name John Patterson appears in the Bucks County record of veterans of the Revolutionary War.

Two Revolutionary War Letters. A pair of autograph letters signed, one by Hezekiah Sabin and one by Augustus Collins, one page each, New Haven and North Haven, Connecticut, 3 and 24 Aug. 1780, both addresed to Captain Jonathan Dayton, 9th Company, 2nd Regiment, CT, regarding the men drafted to fulfill the State of Connecticut's quota of soldiers for the Continental Army. The first says, in brief: "I am Directed by Col Russel to give Possitive Orders to the Several Capts who have Detached men for the three months Service that have not marcht to bring them on immediately….Se[e] that they march on Monday next so as to be all at Col Russels by two Oclock…" The second, in brief: "Persuant to General Orders of the 10 Instant these are to Require you Forth with to Apprehend all such men as you Drafted for the standing army and have not marched and deliver them to Capt James Hillhouse at New Haven…." Very good; some archival repairs and chipping. Two letters regarding the difficulty in supplying soldiers to George Washington from the Charter Oak State.

"…For the depreciation of the Continental Money 1777 1778 & 1779". Document titled "A Roll of the Men's Names in Capt. Hugh Maxwell's Compy 2d Massa.ts Regt Commanded by Col. Jno. Bailey," 16½ x 13¼ in., c. 1779. Docketed "For the depreciation of the Money 1777 1778 & 1779." Columns include the date of enlistment, names of the men, their rank, pay per month, town and county of origin, term of enlistment, and remarks; the latter notes death from battle or other reasons -- desertions, appointments, promotions, etc. Very good; heavy staining at the top and bottom of the document (not affecting legibility).
