Meteoric Libyan Desert Glass 4.25 Inches. Tektites are a mixture of earth rocks mixed with a sprinkling of meteorite material from an immense explosive event that occurred when a very large rocky meteorite vaporized before impacting the earth, forming a glass-like mixture. The color is usually black but can be green or yellow, depending on the amount of silica present. This large 4.25 x 2 x 2 inch 378 gram specimen of Libyan Desert Glass was found buried in the sand of the Sahara (near the border of Libya and Egypt). It is medium yellow-green color with many small regmaglypt-like impressions. Estimate $700 - 850

Green Chromium Petrified 5 x 4 Inch Wood Log. This rare and unusual green-color petrified wood log section is from the 200 million year old Woodworthia sp. tree of Goliwe, Zimbabwe. The partial log is 5 inches in diameter and 4 inches thick and has the highly desirable green color on its polished top, which occurred when Chromium from the ground water replaced the wood cells of the original tree. This is a good sized specimen as almost all of the petrified wood from Zimbabwe is small in diameter. Estimate $500 - 650

Jurassic Pine Cone Cut in Half and Posished. This exquisite 2.5 x 2.25 inch 160 million year old pine cone from Patagonia, Argentina has been cut in half and polished to reveal the inner beauty of the silicified seed kernels fossilized intact within. The inside core is beige to orange in color with excellent detail down to even the small seeds. The outer surface of the pine cone has also been preserved with excellent detail. This rare pine cone came from some giant, over 100 feet tall Araucaria mirabilis pine trees that were buried under volcanic ash over 160 million years ago. This rare pine cone was part of an old collection formed in the early 1990s. Estimate $375 - 450

Large Cabinet Specimen of Desert Rose Selenite from Morocco. Wonderful large cabinet specimen of Moroccan selenite formed by a combination of water wind and sand in salt-water basins and the evaporation that occurred over thousands of years. The crystal formation in a floral pattern is why these example of selenite is called "desert rose". This specimen is quite nice as the formations are relatively unbroken, the petal-like formations in full bloom and the shape quite free-form. Comes with stand, specimen measures. 10 x 9 x 4".
