The only notable marks are a small spot of microscopic reddish carbon nestled between the right top of the E in LIBERTY and the dentils and a few inconsequential nicks on the neck. Nicely struck E-MDS, Manley state 2.0. There are traces of die rust in the field before the portrait but dentils show all the way around both sides. The second 8 shows repunching inside both the upper and lower loops. Curiously this 8 was constructed using the punch intended for the zeroes in the denominator, one on top of another to create an 8 that is clearly larger than the first 8. The reverse is rotated 25 degrees CCW. A very nice half cent. Our grade is EF45+, close to AU50. The attribution and Green Tree Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 5; 5 finer, 1 in 58, 2 in 62, 1 in 63, 1 in 64+ for the variety. Estimate Value $1,500 - UP

1808 C-3 R1 PCGS graded XF45. Glossy medium chocolate brown mixed with some lighter brown, especially on the upper half of the obverse. No roughness or verdigris, only trivial contact marks visible under magnification. A very faint vertical hairline left of the lower end of the hair ribbon may help identify this piece. E-MDS, Manley state 2.0 late. Traces of die rust show in the obverse fields and dentils are visible all the way around both sides except for the right side of the reverse due to that die being slightly misaligned to that side. The reverse is rotated 65 degrees CCW relative to the normal head-to-foot orientation. Our grade is VF35. The attribution and The Green Tree Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 12 finer for the variety. Estimate Value $600 - UP

1808 C-3 R1 PCGS graded AU58. Glossy chocolate brown and steel. Satiny luster covers the planchet and it shows no trace of friction on the highest points of the devices. However, there is a mint-made planchet flake at the top of the E in LIBERTY, and it is obvious to the unaided eye. Otherwise the only mark is a barely visible spot of planchet impurity hidden in the drapery folds at the bust tip. M-LDS, Manley state 4.0, with a die crack from the rim through the I in UNITED to the leaves below. Only traces of dentils remain visible on both sides and the reverse is rotated 15 degrees CCW. Our grade is AU55. The attribution and Green Tree Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 4 finer, 2 in 62, 1 in 63, 1 in 64+ for the variety. Estimate Value $2,000 - UP

1808 C-3 R1 PCGS graded MS62 Brown. Lustrous tan and light reddish brown with darker olive brown and steel toning on the obverse. Satiny mint luster covers the surfaces and the only contact marks is a vertical hairline from the ear lobe down to the shoulder. Clear evidence of the extra strike shows along the profile of Ms Liberty from the top of her head down to the bottom of her neck. M-LDS, Manley state 4.0. The reverse is not rotated. Our grade is AU58. The attribution and Green Tree Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 2 finer, 1 in 63, 1 in 64+ for the variety. Estimate Value $2,500 - UP
