1844/81 N-2 R2 Blundered Date 18 over 81. AU-50. Glossy dark chocolate brown, the reverse a couple shades lighter than the obverse. No defects, only very light wear on the highpoints. Nicely struck EDS, die state a. The blundered date feature, which is actually 1844 punched over an accidentally inverted 1844, is sharp.

1844 N-5 R1 Repunched first 4. AU-55. Frosty light olive brown with a few tiny splashes of lighter reddish brown toning on the reverse. A speck of darker toning over star 11 is the best identifying mark. LDS, die state d, with a strong rim cud break from under the 18 to star 1. Not in the overall condition census for the variety but tied for CC#5 of those known with the rim cud.

The surfaces are satiny and this cent is choice in all respects except for a thin planchet lamination on the earlobe, as struck. Late die state with a triangular rim cud break under the end of the wreath ribbon. Tied for CC#7 overall but tied with one other example for finest known among those with the rim cud.

Tied for CC#7 overall but finest of the early state.

The only mark is a faint hairline scratch from the earlobe to the bottom edge of the eye. Frosty chocolate brown, lighter on the highpoints and darker in protected areas. Sharply struck E-MDS, die state a. The undertype smaller 7 is obvious.

The crack down to star 8 is clear but the strong one from the left base of the 1 in the date to the dentils has not occurred. Needs a proper retoning.
