1826 N-6 R2 PCGS graded AU55, CAC Approved. Very attractive frosty medium chocolate brown and olive with lighter golden steel brown and tan faded down from mint color in some of the protected areas. A beautiful cent, just lightly worn on the highpoints. The only marks are a diagonal nick (or possibly a pre-striking planchet mark) in the field off the chin and a dull tick on the top of the 8 in the date. The reverse looks mint state. EDS with fine die rust evident on the obverse, especially right of star 4, but no die cracks or rim crumbling. Our grade is EF45+. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. PCGS #36826. Pop 1; 11 graded finer at PCGS for the variety. Estimated Value $700 - UP

1826 N-7 R1 PCGS graded AU58+, CAC Approved. Frosty medium brown with slightly darker steel brown toning on the highpoints. A very nice cent that has mint state eye appeal, but a glass reveals a trace of friction on the highest points of the devices. The only marks are a tiny tick under the right corner of the eye and specks of darker toning along the dentil tips from star 9 to star 13 plus one more over IC in AMERICA. MDS. The dentils are worn but still visible around both sides. Graded AU55 net AU50 in the Noyes census, his photo #69727. Our grade is AU50+. 1826/5 N-8 R2 Overdate 6 over 5 PCGS graded AU55, CAC Approved. Choice lustrous medium brown and light chocolate with a few delicate wisps of darker steel brown toning on the obverse. Satiny mint frost covers the protected areas on both sides and this cent has excellent eye appeal. A tiny tick in the center of the neck is the best identifying mark, and it is trivial. M-LDS. The fields are flowlined but the undertype 5 remains visible inside the top of the 6. A very nice example of this often overlooked overdate variety. Our grade is EF40 Choice. 1826 N-9 R3 PCGS AU Detail Cleaned. Choice glossy medium brown and light chocolate. The surfaces are smooth and this cent is nearly flawless with superb eye appeal. A subtle spot of reddish brown toning off the tip of the nose and a tiny diagonal nick over the N in ONE are the only marks, and they are insignificant. MDS with fine die flowlines but no cracks. Our grade is EF45 Choice. Removed from a PCGS slab graded AU58 (PCGS label #1645.58/300119936). No idea why the folks at PCGS changed their assessment of this attractive cent. Satiny luster shows in the fields on both sides and this cent has mint state eye appeal in spite of a touch of rub on the highest points of the devices. The only notable marks are a small spot of darker toning under the left top of the T in CENT and another on the right foot of the second A in AMERICA. E-MDS. There are fine radial die flowlines in the fields off the dentil tips but no crumbling in the dentils at stars 5 & 6. Graded AU50 and tied for CC#3 in the Noyes census, his photo #27746. Mint luster covers the fields and this cent has mint state eye appeal in spite of a touch of friction on the highpoints. There are a few microscopic contact marks in the field off the end of the nose and a dull rim nick at the second A in AMERICA. MDS. The fields are satiny from microscopic die flowlines and the fine die crack through stars 1-6 is clear. The always-present jagged die cracks on the neck are obvious. Nicely struck E-MDS with microscopic die flowlines off the dentil tips but no hint of crumbling in the dentils at the bottom of the reverse. 1827 N-5 R2 NGC graded MS62 Brown. The obverse is medium chocolate brown and steel while the reverse is a lighter shade of medium brown. It appears this cent has never been brushed and a layer of oxidation covers the obverse. No spots, stains, or contact marks. There is no wear on the highpoints and this looks like a mint state cent with a dull, oxidized obverse. May benefit from a proper brushing. MDS with a fine die crack down from the curl at star 13 but no crack from the chin. Our grade is AU55. The attribution is noted on the NGC label. 1827 N-10 R4+ PCGS graded VF30. Attractive glossy medium chocolate brown. The surfaces are smooth and this cent has excellent eye appeal. The only notable marks are a light rim bruise at TE in STATES and a smaller one under the stem tip. MDS. The obverse fields have lost the prooflike reflectivity seen in the earliest state and the reverse is rotated 30 degrees CW from the normal head-to-foot orientation. Called VF20 net F15 and tied for CC#8 in the Noyes census, his photo #20617. Bland says F15 as well but tied for CC#6 in his list. Our grade is F15. A very nice example of this tough die variety. No verdigris and the only notable contact marks are a very light scratch arcing in the field under stars 7 & 8 and a small tick on the left bottom of the 2 in the date. Very rare EDS before the obverse die cracked. In the lower half of the condition census for this rare variety but to the best of our knowledge this is second finest of the early die state. 1829 N-2 R2 Large Letters PCGS graded MS62 Brown, CAC Approved. Frosty light olive and steel with steel brown toning on the highpoints and traces of golden tan in a few protected places. Satiny luster shows in the fields and protected areas, but the luster is a bit subdued thanks to a thin layer of natural oxidation. The only mark is a speck of crud nestled inside the top of the Y in LIBERTY. M-LDS with fine die cracks connecting stars 1-4 and 11-13. The left half of the obverse is a shade or two darker than the right side, but both tones are attractive. No notable spots or stains, and the only notable contact mark is a thin diagonal scratch in the field under the hair bun and a couple very faint hairlines on the cheek and neck. There is just a touch of friction on the highest points of the devices, but some of the design details are not fully struck up, as is nearly always the case for this variety. The fields and protected areas are lustrous and this cent has excellent eye appeal. M-LDS with 4 "wheelspoke" die cracks on the reverse. Traces of faded mint red remain visible on the reverse. There is a trace of friction on the highest points of the portrait but the reverse looks mint state. The only mark is a fine scratch near the dentils at stars 12-13. M-LDS. A radial die crack connects star 13 to the dentils but the line from the ribbon to the U in UNITED remains visible. A double profile (from die bounce or "machine doubling") shows on the forehead. Graded AU55 net AU50 and tied for CC#8 in the Noyes census, his photo #28377. Our grade is EF45+, close to AU50. A tiny nick just right of star 2 and a dull rim nick over the E in AMERICA are the only defects, and they are insignificant. The date and legends are clear except for some weakness at the top of RICA thanks to the reverse being slightly misaligned to K-5 (as always on this variety).
