Lot 209
European Great Helm, Frog Mouth Style Front In the style of 15th Century. Quality, and extraordinarily appealing (in the style of 15 century) European Great Helm with frog's mouth style front and in quite fine condition. The helmet shows early forging with considerable slag and irregular lines that occur at lower temperatures creating the appearance of a grain or skin pattern. Helmet is constructed in three gauges of thickness, heavy in front to withstand blows, medium at center, and lightest at rear where the least threat would occur in a joust. Helmet weighs 9½ lbs. Several small holes at top of helmet accommodated ties to keep internal horsehair pads in place. The attachment latch area has been repaired and two rivets restored, minor holes at rear base from rusting, otherwise a supremely striking piece. Comes with custom wood stand. Helmet roughly 21 x 16 x 14". When originally offered at Little John's Auction, helm was examined by a metallurgist who felt it might have been 15th century. We are not certain (Victorian Era?) and encourage all parties interested to examine in person and perform their own due-diligence. Estimate Value $3,500 - UP

Late 18th Century French Steel Eliptical Barrel Flintlock Blunderbuss with Gold & Silver Details. The blunderbuss is a firearm with a short, large caliber barrel, which is flared at the muzzle, wide the entire bore, and used with shot and other projectiles. The blunderbuss is commonly considered to be an early predecessor of the modern shotgun. Offered here is a handsome French flintlock blunderbuss late 18th Century or very early 19th Century. It boasts a French steel "elliptical" barrel with top mounted spring bayonet that certainly requires adult handling. Butt plate and trigger guards are steel and have very nice engraved detailing. The stock has the faint remnants of a name beautifully scripted and some nice detailing accented in gold along the barrel. Additionally there is some nice silver inlay scrollwork in excellent condition at top of stock just behind the flintlock mechanism. Blunderbuss is 32½ in length, the bayonet 14" in length, and again quite sharp. Overall this firearm is in very good condition and displays beautifully. Estimate Value $2,500 - UP
