1871 Half Dollar Round. Liberty Head. . BG-1029 High Rarity 4. PCGS graded AU-58. Somewhat weak centers (as always) although there is lovely dusky golden brown luster throughout the field and well into the devices. The same dies manufacturer made the dies for Robert B. Gray & Co. (large above the date) and Levison Brothers, the successors to the Gray company (now with a large L above the date). BG-1029 has the 7th star almost touching the border, and a guide line below 187; it uses the identical reverse as BG-1028 (the Robert B. Gray issue) and can therefore be thought of as sort of a transitional issue. Pop 8; 18 finer. (PCGS # 10858) .
Estimated Value $300 - 330.
