Lot 3914
Great Britain. Noble, ND. S.1490; Fr-89. Edward III, 1327-1377. Fourth coinage (1351-1377). Pre-Treaty Period. Series G. Mint mark cross 2. London mint. Obverse: King facing standing in ship with sword and shield. Reverse, floriated cross. This coin was minted circa 1354 AD, only a few years after the gold Noble had made its first appearance as a denomination in the English coinage series. This, and other early gold Nobles were crudely struck and lacked the finer detail of the post 1360 examples. Nevertheless, this specimen is well centered, has a good portrait and fairly bristles with original luster. It has pretty certainly never seen circulation and is a 'discovery' coin, unearthed comparatively recently in England. The catalogue value is £2100 (around $3300) in only VF. No higher grade is given. A true rarity, and a piece of British history. NGC graded AU-58.
Estimated Value $4,500 - 5,000.

Lot 3915
Great Britain. Quarter Noble, ND. Fr-94; S.1501; North-1224. Edward III, 1327-1377. Transitional Treaty period (1361). London mint. Obverse: Shield in tressure of eight arcs, EDWARD DEI GRA REX ANGL. Reverse: Floritated cross. Mint mark cross potent. This is a nicely struck coin (with good original surfaces) which has probably never seen circulation. High quality fractional Nobles such as this are becoming increasingly scarce. PCGS graded Genuine, Uncirculated, Details (Filed Rims).
Estimated Value $900 - 1,100.
