Only a few minor contact marks, including a dull diagonal nick under the chin that can help identify this cent. MDS Breen state IV, with buckling at the lowest curls in addition to the earlier die crack that arcs from the rim under the date through the shoulder, hair, and lower end of the hair ribbon to the dentils off to the left. This cent was struck two times, both strikes reasonably well centered on the planchet. The second strike was against the reverse die with a 15 degree CW rotation between the impressions, but the obverse was struck against a new blank planchet during the second impression (thereby creating an obverse brockage impression on the second planchet). Sharp doubling shows on all the devices on the reverse while the obverse displays the characteristic wavy swelling that is associated with having been struck against a blank planchet. In addition the blank planchet was positioned slightly off center and left behind a depression along the dentil tips over LIBERTY. A beautiful example of a new mint error. Our grade is VF20. The "Mint Error" and "Double Struck with Reverse Rotation" features are on the NGC label along with the attribution and Mervis provenance.

Lot 594
1803 S-262 R3 VG8. Glossy medium chocolate brown with slightly lighter steel brown toning on the highpoints. Smooth and attractive for the grade. A few small contact marks in the field before the neck are the only notable defects. MDS. A bit softly struck at the top of the obverse and bottom of the reverse, a result of die faces not in perfect parallel alignment.
Estimated Value $150-UP.
From the Norman Wolfe collection.

Lot 595
1804 S-266a R4+ VG7. Sharpness F12 but covered with light to moderate roughness mixed with dull scratches. No verdigris, and the toning is an attractive and mostly glossy medium brown and light chocolate with darker steel brown toning on the highpoints. EDS, Breen state I, before any die cracks or cud breaks. The date and legends are complete and easily readable. Looks nicer than the description might imply, but it certainly has significant deficiencies.
Estimated Value $1,500-UP.
From the Norman Wolfe collection.
