Persian, Amlash. Bronze Ram, ca. 1000 BC. A small bronze figure of a ram with two long curling horns, a small beard, and tail, wearing a necklace, two earrings with carnelian beads. It is stylized and beautifully depicted. Both horns have been expertly repaired. Height: 3"; Length: 4 ½".

Sumerian. Clay Cuneiform Tablet, ca. 2nd - 1st Millennium BC. This tablet is made from very fine grain pinkish clay shaped in to a rectangle, clearly inscribed on both sides. Persian, Amlash. Large Zoomorphic Rhyton, ca. 1000 - 800 BC. A hollow vessel in the form of a humped bull, with a cylindrical body and a prominent neck hump, the muzzle extending into a long spout, with long horns and small ears below, vertical ridges for the dewlap and tail, on four tapering legs. A rare and fine piece for this size. Intact with some minor restorations. Length: 13 ¼"; Height: 14".

Persian. Luristan. Two Piece Bronze Finial depicting the "Master of Animals", ca. 1000 - 800 BC. The top has two faces on the central anthropomorphic tube, the upper most wearing a necklace and a girdle, his hips and legs making up the base of the finial. The flanking heads, grasped by the hands of the central figure, have leonine jaws and a cock's comb, a cock's head faces outwards at the base of each neck. The bottom piece is a bell shape with cylindrical neck and flat flared top. A choice example with great style and detail and mounted via a pin to the bottle-shaped base, which is topped by a wide, flat disc. When attached - Height: 13 ¾". Estimated Value $800 - 1,000. Near Eastern. Golden Calf Suckling Mother, 22 Kt Gold, Achaemenid Style, ca. 600-500 BC. This piece is an exquisite masterpiece. It is of unknown origin, nevertheless, it perfectly embodies the Achaemenid style. The artistic quality of this piece is incredible with its depiction of the mother cow is so precise and her segmented horns and ornate collar are eye catching. Syro-Hittite. Bird-headed Astarte Figurine, ca. 3rd Millennium BC. A light brown clay fertility idol with the face of a bird, pointed nose and very large eyes, wearing a crown and two necklaces; arms are outstretched and body is a long simple column. Mounted in a clear case with removable top. We note some damage to the bottom right side and the head has been reattached. Height: 8"; Width: 3 inches. Dimensions of case- Height: 10"; Length: 5"; Width: 5".
Astarte was a female deity from the Mesopotamian area which spread to many other cultures in the Mediterranean. Astarte was associated with fertility, sexuality, war. These attributes have stark comparisons with the female deities: Ishtar, Aphrodite, Venus, and the Etruscan Uni-Astre (Juno).
