Lot 1
1652 Oak Tree Shilling. . Noe-1.5 Rarity-7. PCGS graded VF-30. Noe-1.5 is an extrtemely rare late die state for the Noe-1 variety. Both dies are now rusted, especially the reverse. Glossy medium gray with darker gray toning in protected areas. No notable signs of contact, but there are some small planchet chips at the edges affecting parts of the legend. The oak tree is nearly complete and the legends are easily readable except for LAND at the bottom of the reverse. The date and denomination are bold. Weight listed as 68.80 grains on the PCGS label.
Estimated Value $2,000 - 4,000.

Lot 2
1652 Massachusetts Oak Tree Shilling IN at bottom. . Noe 5 Rarity-2. NGC graded MS-61. Glossy dark grayish steel with lighter gray toning on the highpoints. No planchet flaws and the planchet is almost perfectly round. The only marks are some very fine abrasions on the unstruck portion of the planchet at the top of the obverse where the die edge (sometimes looks like a cud break) was carefully smoothed down, possibly prior to release from the mint. The obverse is slightly off center to the bottom, as always, but the centering is better than normal with only a few letters of the legend slipping very slightly off the edge. The reverse is better positioned on the planchet and everything is complete. An outstanding example, certainly one of the finest known. Superior to the Hain examples and comparable to either of the Ford pieces. Weight listed as 66.4 grains on the NGC label.
Estimated Value $4,000 - 8,000.

A premium example for the grade. Weight listed as 64.6 grains on the NGC label.

1652 Wyatt Copy of Massachusetts Oak Tree Shilling. MS-60. Frosty light silvery gray. No defects, essentially as struck by Thomas Wyatt of New York circa 1850-1860 using hand-made copy dies. 1652 Pine Tree Shilling. Large planchet. . Noe-8 Rarity-3. NGC graded MS-63. Variety with a fancy top on the 5 in the date. Frosty light silvery gray with darker bluish steel gray toning in protected areas. Very well centered on a large, round planchet that was not clipped or mistreated in any way. The planchet is slightly wavy, as always thanks to the rocker press used to strike these pieces. Every element of the design is contained on the planchet, which is extremely unusual. Later die state with several areas of crumbling on the reverse. The best identifying mark on this piece is a tiny depression in the planchet near the rim at the top of the obverse. Certainly one of the finest examples of this popular early colonial issue. Weight listed on the NGC label as 70.96 grains.
Estimated Value $20,000 - 40,000.

1652 Pine Tree Shilling. Large planchet. . Noe-10 Rarity-3. PCGS graded VF-20. Glossy medium to darker gray with slightly lighter silvery gray highpoints. Most of the pine tree is clear but portions are gone due to uneven wear. Parts of the legend are gone as well while other areas are quite strong, again a result of the delicate waves in the planchet caused by the rocker press. The date and denomination are bold, and the two reversed N's in the legend are strong. Late die state. Weight listed as 69.90 grains on the PCGS label.
Estimated Value $1,250 - 2,500.

There are traces of microscopic roughness on both sides, but the surfaces are mostly smooth and the eye appeal is quite nice for the grade. Rather early die state with some of the reverse details still visible, including hints of a date (which is quite unusual for this variety due to the heavily worn reverse die). Weight 89.7 grains.
Estimated Value $200 - 400.

Lot 50
1788 Vermont. . Ryder-20 Rarity-3. EF-40. Attractive frosty steel brown and reddish chocolate brown with a wisp of darker steel brown toning off the chin. Flowline luster covers the protected areas, especially on the obverse. No verdigris, or contact marks. A very tiny planchet clip over the T in ET and a microscopic planchet crack at the rim under the shoulder are the only planchet flaws, and they are barely visible. Nicely struck and well centered. A premium example. Weight 116.3 grains.
Estimated Value $1,000 - 2,000.
