Lot 271

1803 S-243 R2 Stemless Wreath PCGS graded XF45. Glossy medium chocolate brown and steel with reddish chocolate toning in a couple of the protected areas on both sides. The surfaces appear perfectly smooth to the unaided eye but a glass reveals very fine roughness in the reddish areas, and the roughness is strongest around the lowest curl left of the shoulder. No notable contact marks and the eye appeal is quite nice in spite of the minor roughness. MDS, Breen state III, with a rim cud break from the Y to opposite the end of the nose. The Stemless Wreath feature, Doubled Fraction Bar, and boldly repunched second S in STATES are all obvious. Our grade is net VF25+. The attribution and Heard provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 3; 4 finer, 1 in 53, 1 in 58+, 1 in 63, 1 in 65 for the variety. PCGS #36419. Estimate Value $1,500 - UP
