Lot 260

1799 S-189 R2 PCGS graded VG8, CAC Approved. Very attractive glossy medium chocolate brown with slightly lighter brown toning in protected areas on the reverse. The surfaces are smooth, void of any hint of corrosion or verdigris, and show only trivial contact marks. A small diagonal nick on the base of the numerator is the best identifying mark, and it is barely visible. MDS. The date and LIBERTY were both properly struck up, which is often not the case for this variety, and the dull lump under E in ONE is present. The bottom edge of the date is fading into the rim below, but the remainder is strong and the legends are clear. A nicely balanced, very attractive example of this key date. Our grade is consistent with the PCGS grade. The attribution and Heard provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS #36140. Estimate Value $6,000 - UP
