Lot 253

1797 S-131 R2 Reverse of 1797, Stemless Wreath PCGS graded VF35. Mostly glossy olive brown and steel. Smooth and attractive, void of any traces of corrosion or verdigris with just a few contact marks. The notable marks are a long diagonal nick midway between the throat and the rim, a pair of nicks near the dentil tips left of the date, and planchet chip on the bust. M-LDS, Breen state IV. The die chip defect hanging down from the dentils behind the head is strong and the two vertical die cracks before the portrait are clear. The date is bold, the legends are strong, and the Stemless Wreath feature is obvious. A nice example of this popular "Redbook" variety. Our grade is VF25. The attribution and Heard provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 4 in VF; 5 finer for the variety. PCGS #35981. Estimate Value $2,000 - UP
Ex Chris McCawley 6/3/2011-Gene Heard Collection.
