Lot 818

1937-D. 3 Legs. NGC graded MS-65. Lovely golden toning on both sides. Well struck by the dies with all the important diagnostics sharp. The surfaces are pristine showing ample luster and a touch of rose gold toning. Of course this issue was created by over zealous die lapping employed to remove clash marks. While not only removing the die clash marks, the foreleg of the bison was also removed, creating one of the most famous blunders of the Buffalo nickel series. Thee have been highly popular since discovered, and while most collectors have been able to secure a well circulated example, Gems like this are precious and few. Pop 58; 24 finer. Estimate Value $20,000 - 22,000
