Lot 411

1840 N-6 R1 Large Date with 840 Repunched PCGS graded MS64 Red & Brown. Frosty bluish steel brown with nearly half the original mint red remaining on the obverse and a third of the mint color showing on the reverse. Nearly flawless but here are traces of light carbon at ERT in LIBERTY and two small carbon spots at the I in AMERICA. Otherwise this cent is close to gem and the considerable amount of original mint color is a big plus. MDS, die state b. The repunching on the 40 is still clear but the repunching on the 8 and the arc line at the dentil tips over RIC are gone. Our grade is MS63, tied for CC#7 for the die variety in the Grellman census. The attribution and Fricke provenance are noted n the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; tied for finest of the variety graded at both services. Estimate Value $1,500 - UP
