Lot 355

1798 S-166 R1 Large 8 with Style II Hair PCGS graded VF30, CAC Approved. The surfaces are attractive and free of verdigris or notable marks, but the gloss is a bit subdued by extremely faint granularity that is visible under strong magnification. Looks choice to the unaided eye. Slightly glossy steel and olive brown with frosty lighter reddish chocolate toning in protected areas. Nicely struck E-MDS, Breen state III early. The always-present die crack through E in UNITED is light. Our grade is VF25+, close to VF30. The attribution and Fricke provenance are noted on the PCGS label. Estimate Value $800 - UP
