Lot 256

1794 S-26 R2 VF25. Slightly sharper but very lightly burnished long ago and expertly retoned a very attractive glossy medium chocolate brown and steel. The surfaces are smooth and there are only a few trivial contact marks. The notable marks are a light diagonal nick near the dentils left of the date, a dull nick on the N in CENT, and a pinprick on a dentil over the first A in AMERICA. MDS, Breen state V, showing a new die crack through the first S in STATES into the leaves below. This cent offers great eye appeal in spite of the retoning, and it is the very cent that kick-started Chuck Heck's quest to complete a Sheldon variety set of 1794 cents. Estimate Value $1,500 - UP
