Lot 232

1812 S-291 R2 Small Date PCGS graded MS62 Brown. Attractive lustrous olive brown and steel. A beautiful cent, essentially flawless with outstanding eye appeal in every respect. The only marks, and they are microscopic, are a collection of tiny pinpricks on the front edge of the neck and two dull pinpricks left of the O in OF. In addition there is a barely visible planchet clip that weakens a few dentils above the back of the head and the opposing dentils under the end of the wreath stem. M-LDS, Breen state III, with light die clashmarks on both sides and a fine die crack joining the bases of the 1 & 2 in the date but not extending to the 18. The earlier die cracks through all the stars are clear. Graded AU55 and CC#2 in the Bland census. Noyes says AU55 and CC#2 as well, his photo #39713. Our grade is AU58+, very close to mint state. The attribution and Halpern-Reynolds provenance are noted on the PCGS Secure label. Pop 1; 1 finer in 63BN at PCGS for the variety . Estimate Value $10,000 - UP
