Lot 202

1802 S-235 R3 PCGS Genuine, XF Details, Rim Damage. Dark steel and olive brown. The surfaces are matte thanks to uniform extremely fine granularity but there is no verdigris. A proper brushing may bring some life to the surfaces. The only marks are a series of 8 sharp rim nicks or short scratches at the rim from the 18 clockwise to left of the hair ribbon. These marks are old and only the one left of the hair ribbon catches your eye. MDS, Breen state V early, with an unlisted intermediate cud break connecting TY in LIBERTY to the rim above. Normally this cud covers all of the top of the T, but the cud on this example ends near the middle of the top of the T. A new intermediate die state that was unknown to Breen, unique to the best of our knowledge. A very important piece for a die state specialist. Our grade is VF35 sharpness net F15. The attribution and Reynolds provenance are noted on the PCGS Secure label. Estimate Value $1,000 - UP
Acquired from an unrecorded source in Baltimore 3/2013.
