Lot 189

1798 S-184 R1 Style II Hair, Small 8 PCGS graded MS62 Brown. Frosty chocolate brown and steel. Sharply struck and void of any trace of spots, stains, or verdigris. The best identifying marks are a shallow diagonal planchet flake between the leaves over the N in ONE and another on the left side of the O in OF (both as struck). Extremely rare EDS, Breen state I, before the tiny die chips (lumps on the coin) normally seen at RT in LIBERTY or at the 7 in the date. In addition there is a clear double profile on the chin and faint doubling on the end of the nose (from die bounce). Graded AU55 and tied for CC#4 in the Bland census. Noyes says MS60 net AU50 (reason for deduction unknown) and tied for CC#3, his photo #31408. Our grade is MS60. The attribution and Reynolds provenance are noted on the PCGS Secure label. Pop 2; none finer at PCGS for the variety. Estimate Value $8,000 - UP
