Lot 1269

1834. No motto. PCGS graded MS-61. PQ. Semi reflective fields with satin luster on the devices. This is the first year of issue of the Classic Head design that slightly reduced the amount of gold contained in the $2.50 cent planchet. Prior to the introduction of these reduced size quarter eagles, the value of gold in the coin actually exceeded the stated value, hence most of the prior style heavier coins were melted. A popular issue when found in true Mint State like the present offering (PCGS # 7692) Estimate Value $3,000 - 3,200

Realized $3,408
