Lot 12

1794 S-72 R2 Exact Head of 1795 PCGS graded MS62 Brown. Clipped Planchet. Partial Double Profile. Frosty light chocolate brown with subtle hints of reddish chocolate brown toning in protected areas at the bottom of the reverse. Smooth surfaces, free of any hint of corrosion or verdigris. Just a few insignificant marks, including a thin vertical nick in the center of the jawline and a tiny nick inside the top of the E in CENT. MDS, Breen state III. The die crack at TY is clear but the small lump has not formed between the hair and the T. A slightly curved planchet clip (as struck) affects the dentils left of the date and the opposing ones at TE in STATES. In addition there is doubling from die bounce on the tip of the nose, lips, and chin with stronger doubling along the upper edge of the bust. Called VF35 net VF30 and tied for CC#14 in the Noyes census, his photo #58200. Our grade is VF35+, close to EF40. A very attractive example of the Exact Head of 1795 variety (an assessment endorsed by the graders at PCGS based on the Mint State grade they assigned to it). The attribution and Koshkarian provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 3; 1 finer in 65 for the variety. Estimate Value $8,000 - UP
