In the wake of the recent testimony by former Communist Party member Whittaker Chambers before the House Committee on Un-American Activities in which he accused former Director of the State Department's Office of Special Political Affairs, Alger Hiss, of being a Soviet spy, Truman responds to a letter from the standing Bishop of the Methodist Church, thanking him for providing information in response to charges of the Un-American Activities Committee.
