Jackson, Andrew. (1767-1845). 7th President of the United States. Autograph letter signed ("Andrew Jackson"), 1 page, 9¾ x 7¾", the Hermitage, Tennessee, Feb. 13, 1827. To Col. Leroy Pope (1765-1844), called "Father of Huntsville" Alabama, introducing an astronomer by the name of Mr. Goodacre. Goodacre had spent some time in Nashville and had given lectures and demonstrations, deemed "superior" by Jackson and "highly gratifying to all our learned gentlemen who have attended them. " Jackson asks that Pope be sure to introduce Goodacre to one Doctor Brown, who must certainly have been an avid stargazer.

Some splitting to vertical folds; four small holes at fold intersections affect a couple of letters of text. The signature remains clear and bold. Accompanied by a Letter of Authenticity. Housed in a lucite holder, easily removed. $1,500 - 2,000
