King, Jr., Martin Luther (1929-1968). Baptist minister; Civil Rights activist; and Nobel Laureate. Book inscribed and signed, being a First Edition of Stride Toward Freedom. The Montgomery Story, Harper and Brothers, New York, 1958. Inscribed and signed "With Best Wishes / Martin Luther King Jr." on the first end page. Stated First Edition with first printing code H-H. 230 pp., hardcover, 8vo., cloth-backed boards. Illustrated with black and white photos. First-issue dust jacket with No. 8471A and No. 8472A on front and rear flaps, respectively. Dust jacket with price of $2.95 intact. Book in fine condition. Dust jacket has sustained some wear, with chipping, creasing, and a few minor tears along the edges and folds, minor scratches to the front cover, and light spotting to the back cover -- in good condition.

According to Martin Luther King, this memoir of the Montgomery bus boycott is ''the chronicle of 50,000 Negroes who took to heart the principles of nonviolence, who learned to fight for their rights with the weapon of love, and who in the process, acquired a new estimate of their own human worth'' (King, 9).
