Himalayan Red Coral and Greek 22 Karat Gold Beaded Necklace. Red coral has been a prized material in Tibet and the Himalayan regions for many centuries. Frequently used for prayer beads and in necklace compositions, it is believed to be an efficacious amulet against negativity and has long been employed in traditional Tibetan medicine as an antidote to poison. Its tremendous value has likewise led to its use in sacred contexts as a precious offering to the enlightened ones. The majority of antique Tibetan red coral originates from the Mediterranean Sea, having traveled by land along the silk trade route or by sea from India.

This extremely fine necklace features large, blood red to pink Himalayan coral beads alternating with small gold beads, accented with two 22 karat Greek, double beehive beads, D. 1", with double hook closure. Necklace is 25" long. Coral beads from Tibet, ca. 18th-19th century. Two large gold beads, Athens, Greece, ca. 1965. Estimated Value $3,000 - 4,000
