Pre-Columbian Chimu Blackware Vessel. Northern Peru, Chimu culture, Ca 1000 to 1300 CE. Fine blackware pottery jar in an almost canteen form with short spout, body decorated with standing figure in crescent headdress with top slope of jar decorated wth 6 amphibious creatures. The reverse reveals the amphibious creature tails continuing creating a fantastic ridged effect stopping midway. Measuring at about 9 x 7 x 4" and in superior condition. Some remnants of earthquake putty at bottom. Estimated Value $700 - 900
