Castro, Fidel (1926 -). Cuban politician and revolutionary who governed the Republic of Cuba as Prime Minister (1959-1976) and as President (1976-2008). Document signed ("Fidel Castro Ruz"), as Prime Minister, in Spanish, 3 pages, on "Republica De Cuba / Presidencia" letterhead, 13½ x 9", Havana, July 14, 1959 ("Año de la Liberación"). Countersigned by outgoing President, Manuel Urrutia, the Minister of Social Welfare, Raquel Perez ("Raquel Perez"), and initialed by Castro, Urrutia, and Perez on the first two pages. The blue paper seal of the President of the Republic of Cuba, featuring the Cuban coat of arms, appears intact below the signatures on page three.
The document describes Law 459, a statute formulated to minimize homelessness, particularly among minors. All pages 3-hole-punched and with pin-hole perforations along the left margins, lightly creased at the horizontal center, and slightly chipped and discolored along the edges -- the condition is very good.
