19th Century Russian Malachite Inkwell. Malachite is one of Russia's most prestigious stones, and its use in the creation of this highly desireable inkwell indicates a commission and ownership by an individual of considerable status. In the late 1800s malachite reached peak pricing and its appeal in Russia, quite evident in the Romanov palaces. This superior antique inkwell boasts two lovely gilt bronze inkwells, hinged lids with a subtle floral motif, striking in contrast to the stone, with a recess that holds pens. An exquiste desk accessory, 11" x 5½" x 1½" with squat, gilt bronze round feet at each corner. In superior condition. Estimated Value $600 - 800

Realized $432
