World's Columbian Exposition at Chicago Ephemera. The world's fair held in Chicago in 1893 to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus's arrival in the New World in 1492 proved a significant cultural event. Our lot includes a selection of souvenirs, including: six admission tickets engraved in the highest quality of the day by the American Bank Note Company; a return pass; an admission ticket for Manhattan Day at the fair; a pair of admission tickets for Chicago Day at the fair; a pair of souvenir tickets; a pair of souvenir postcards featuring depictions by Charles W. Goldsmith of the buildings constructed for the exhibit; a workman's pass; an invitation, admission ticket and pass to the Dedication of the Buildings of the Expo; an invitation to the Dedicatory Exercises of the Illinois State Building; souvenir elongated 1888 liberty head nickel; two colorfully embroidered souvenir ribbons featuring images of Machinery Hall; and more.
