Published by Gabriel Wells Publishing, New York (1922-1935) This definitive First Edition signed/limited complete works. was limited to one thousand twenty-four sets of thirty-five volumes each, with the first volume bearing the original autograph signature of Mark Twain and noted as set No. 352 "The special fly-leaf was signed by Mark Twain in 1906 in anticipation of the present definitive edition of his works" signed by Albert Bigelow Paine (underscored); the next tipped-in plate is signed by "SL. Clemens / Mark Twain (underscored.)" Bound in finely woven blue cloth spines with printed paper labels; in buff-colored paper-covered boards. Deckle-edged paper with splendid photogravure frontispieces and plates throughout. some pages unopened. All the volumes are in fine condition with minor evidence of an occasional stain, a chip to the edge of the occasional board, very slight shelf wear and evidence of casual use. But overall certainly presentable and for decades this set prized and cared for. Estimated Value $2,500-UP
