American Revolutionary War Dagger (Plug Bayonet). Circa 1770s plug bayonet or spontoon. A very nice example boasting a fine hand-forged blade measuring approximately 8" in length with a 4½" wooden handle, to an overall length of 12½ ". It has excellent and attractive surface patina and is in quality condition. Etched on metal band of handle are the letters WM. Plug bayonets were used by by inserting the handle into the end of a musket barrel in order to instantly create a makeshift "spear." Fairly scarce, nice provenance. Estimated Value $600 - 800
