Grant, Ulysses S (1822-1885). As commanding general, Grant led the Union Army to victory over the Confederacy in the American Civil War. A war hero, he was subsequently elected the 18th President of the United States (1869-1877). Signature on an ivory card affixed to the front of a painted silk covered menu for a luncheon hosted by the Massachusetts State Republican Committee at Young's Hotel in Boston on October 15, 1880. Very unusual and quite impressive! The menu is fine, as is the signature. Estimated Value $500 - 700
