Ford, Gerald R (1913-2006). 38th President of the United States. Typed letter signed ("Gerry"), 1 page, 8½ x 6¼", on ivory "Gerald R. Ford" Presidential stationery, Rancho Mirage, California, November 29, 2000. To Robert Cyrus "Cy" Laughter of Dayton, Ohio, who had served on President Ford's Physical Fitness Committee. In a letter written just a few weeks before the December 12, 2000 Supreme Court decision that named George W. Bush the winner of the disputed Presidential election, Ford pledges to "do whatever I can" to secure a post for Laughter in the forthcoming Bush administration, provided that George W. is, in fact, elected. The letter is accompanied by a GOP observer Miami-Dade badge, as well as the original mailing envelope. Folded once at the horizontal center, else fine. Estimated Value $200 - 300
