Lot 139

Louis XVI, King of France (1754-1793). Ruler of France from 1774 until his deposition in 1792. His attempts to reform France, including abolition of serfdom, removal of the taille, deregulation of the grain market, and increased tolerance of non-Catholics, contributed to social and financial crisis. This, along with an increasing perception of Louis as a tyrant, prompted the French Revolution, and in 1793, the former King, along with his Queen, Marie-Antionette, were guillotined. Document signed ("Louis"), in French, 1 page, vellum, 11½ x 19", Versailles, France, April 13, 1780. Countersigned by Louis-Joesph de Bourbon (1736-1818), Prince of Condé and Prince du Sang. Being a military commission. With just some light creasing, this item is in very good to fine condition. Estimated Value $500 - 700

Realized $163
