Iwo Jima Signed by 4 Present, 1st Day Issue Cover & Stamp Commemorating The Raising of the Flag. 3 cent stamp and commemorative cover, 4 x 6½", issued by the U.S. Postal Service on July 11, 1945, post-marked from the Old Post Office in Washington, D.C. Cover has been signed by Ira Hayes, Rene A. Gagnon and John Bradley (father of James Bradley, who wrote Flags of Our Fathers) the surviving flag-raisers at the time. Fourth signature is by the photographer, Joe Rosenthal, who captured the flag raising (actually, the second raising as the first flag was deemed to small) on Mount Suribachi in an iconic image that galvanized and moved the American public during the War, ultimately earning Rosenthal the Pulitzer Prize for photography and the Navy Distinguished Service Award. Cover, stamp, and signatures all in excellent condition. Estimated Value $500 - 750
