A truly eclectic collection of signed commemorative covers celebrating inaugural airmail routes originating in the U.S. signed by wide variety of people in the news in the late 1920s. Includes: two significant sculptors, Gutzon Borglum, whose work at Mount Rushmore is without peer, and Lorado Taft, the Chicago artist responsible for "Fountain of Time" and "Fountain of the Great Lakes"; Count Felix Von Luckner, "The Sea Devil", a celebrated German war hero; Jane Addams, 1931 Peace Prize Winner and celebrated social reformer, pacifist, and feminist; Chief Two Guns White Calf, son of the last tribal chief of the Pikuni Blackfeet, whose striking visage was once thought to be the inspiration on the buffalo nickel; Grace Bidell, the woman who, at age eleven, wrote President Abraham Lincoln to grow his characteristic beard; Helen Brainard Cole, a Civil War nurse in Washington who regularly assisted Lincoln in his visitations to the wounded; Oliver Wendell Holmes; General Alvaro Obregon, Ex-President of Mexico who was assassinated; and many others.
